Cottage Charm

One of my Christmas Presents January 3, 2007

Filed under: Decorating Ideas, Our Home — cottagecharm @ 4:42 pm
Every year for Christmas we get scratch off lottery tickets in our stockings. This year I won $46. Whoo-Hoo!!! I went out and bought some things. (Santa told me to spend it on me. lol)
I got a few things from the consignment store and Goodwill (all new and never worn!) (you will see this stuff later on)
I also got a new centerpiece for my table! I am so excited!! I found the urn at Kirklands and it was love at first sight! (not to mention that is was on sale for $15!!!!) Then I went to Walmart and Target for the filler. I LOVE it and it looks so much better than the candle I had there before.

Our Balcony September 11, 2006

I finally took a picture of the porch swing and some views from the balcony!

Our balcony isn’t really all that big so the porch swing fits nicely. This coming spring/summer I am hoping to get some flower boxes and plant some flowers in there. I am also wanting to get two small tables so that we can put our drinks down while we are out there.

Do you have any suggestions for sprucing up this bare balcony?

Finally Finished – Master Bath August 29, 2006

I decided to go with Blue and brown with a chocolate/candy type theme. I know, corny for a bathroom, but hey, our other bathroom is done in a coffee house theme.

In this first picture you can see the clock which I put a brown and blue ribbon around to jazz it up some. You can also barely make out the “everybody loves chocolate” plate above the door. It had the blue and brown color in it and a slight yellow to just tie everything in together. And yes, those are my pajamas and my robe hanging on the back of the door.

In the next picture you can see 2 of the chocolate pictures, the brown shower curtain with the blue hooks and my cute little set of pedicure chocolate things, My bath candy, and a little box with a latte shaped candle inside. hmm… I should have gotten a closer picture of the goodies, but I didn’t think about it at the time. Oh well….

In this next picture you can see the sink. and if you look really close, you can see me taking the picture…. I love that antiqued candle stand! Bought it at Meijer. I tied the same ribbon that was on the clock around the candle. The blue & lavender containers you see are filled with powder. The blue & white basket hold my hair ribbons.

and finally in the last photo, you can see the last 2 chocolate dessert pictures, the handtowel and part of the medicine cabinet. I know, really thrilling photography huh….

So I finally got around to taking new photos of the finished bathroom! I know, you will all sleep better tonight knowing that I did this. (LOL)

Here is where you can find the bathroom before the redo.

And here is where you can see it during.

Porch Swing August 14, 2006

Filed under: Our Home — cottagecharm @ 2:27 pm

My parents bought my hubby and I a porch swing for our anniversary. Now, this is not just any old porch swing, it is a custom built one! It is so pretty and comfortable! Hubby hung it up for me on Sunday. Once it was hung up, we realized that the chain wasn’t long enough! My hubby can’t reach the porch by about 2 feet when he is sitting on it!

Now I just need to spruce up our balcony! I would like to get some flower boxes and I would also like some kind of side table, and a clock/thermometer (maybe). I have a bird feeder, but hubby would like it moved as the birds like to poo on our balcony railings.

I will post some pictures once I take them!

Master Bedroom – part 1 July 2, 2006

Here, I am showcasing our bedroom. We painted it in Navy Blue. (Sherwin Williams color Navel) I have white, blues, and yellows as accents in this room. The furniture was bought distressed looking, before it was really in style. (actually it always seems like I am one step ahead of the trends.) The theme in this room is a bit country-ish with daisies.
Here is the room as seen from the doorway at an angle. You can see the bed, my night stand, the window, the kitty seat and our armoire. The curtains are yellow with daisies all over them. Sorry about it being so dark, it was really bright yesterday when I took the photos.

Here is a view from my side of the bed. You can see the other night stand and our dresser.

Here is our bed. The photo above it was one of our engagement photo. We framed it and matted it and had it out at our wedding reception with a sliver pen for people to sign. It turned out great!

Master Bedroom – part 2 July 2, 2006

Here is the view from the bed. The painting we received as a wedding gift. It is a Hardgrove. Neither of us really like it, but it matches the bedroom for now. Well, at least until I find something different to go there. We are actually wanting to sell it, so if you are interested, just let me know!
This is my brooch holder. I made it so that I could display my brooches. I collect them and do wear them, but I like for them to be on display as well cause they sure look pretty!. My mom bought me the little prayer sign and I thought it looked great above the board. The wall that this is placed on is a small one by the closet door.
Here is the view looking out toward the rest of the house. Above the door is a clock. To the left you can see the edge of the dresser and the edge of the wall that my brooch holder sits on.

Dining Room June 26, 2006

This is our dining room. The color on the walls is Fireweed and Abalone Shell. I have a cream table cloth on the table with sage green placemats. The centerpiece is a copper candle holder with various heights of Burgundy candles surrounded with copper/red stones.

This photo shoes my grandmothers china hutch. I have my good ivory china with the gold rims in it. If you make the photo bigger, you can see the bird cage floral thing I did by the bedroom door. On top of the hutch I have more baskets, my grandmothers angel and some ivy and flowers.
Here is another view of the hutch and the pictures we have on the wall. All three are floral pictures done in sage green and a goldish tint.

Living Room – part 1 June 22, 2006

I have always tried to make my home comfortable. I have tried to make it pleasing to both my husband and myself. When guests come over, I want them to feel at home, at peace and comfortable.

This is a photo taken from the entryway. Our living room houses the normal living room stuff – a couch and love seat, 2 end tables, a coffee table and a TV. I used to have 2 shelves and a pretty framed floral photo above the sofa, but I just wasn’t’ happy with it and wanted something different, above is the result of that.
Here is a close up of the end table that is between the two sofas. On top of the table you will find a lamp, a few coasters for drinks, a small basket with the remotes, an angel figurine, my tin church and a scripture plaque that reads “Commit thy way unto the Lord”. Beneath the table is a basket that has 2 extra pillows and some folded up extra fabric that matches the decor. Yours truly made the floral arrangement. Pretty much (ok all) the floral arrangements in my home, I did myself. It is something that I enjoy doing)

Here is the other side of the large sofa with a view of the coffee table.

Above is the other end table. You will find a ceramic tea set a scripture box, another floral arrangement, more coasters and a hymnal. Below it is my magazine basket. I only subscribe to 2 magazine and that is really all I buy, Real Simple and Cottage Living. Inside the basket there is a rolled up, leather, checkers/chess game.

Living Room – part 2 June 22, 2006

Here is our fireplace. It is set at an angle from the main wall. My husband painted the fireplace wall as well as the dining room wall a really muted red color called fireweed. The rest of it is painted in a really pretty pinky tan color. (I don’t remember the name of it.) The angles on the mantel were made by my great grandmother. The basket you see to the left is the cat’s toy-box. The basket on the right holds our DVD’s. The flower arrangement was made by yours truly.
This is a close up of the fireplace. We placed a mirror on the back wall and then filled it with different heights of candles. It really looks beautiful at night! This is my husbands pride and joy, his big-screen. He really worked hard last year and this was his present to himself. It really makes movie-watching very enjoyable! The two baskets hold our DVD’s. I still need to add some bows to the handles of the one on the right. Our scripture verse hangs above the TV as a gentle reminder. I saw this sign in one of those country shops and just had to have it! My mom bought it for me as a gift.

Here is a close up of it. And in case it is blurry to read – Rejoice in Hope, Be Patient in affliction, and Faithful in Prayer. Romans 12:12
